The 31 October 2017 deadline for filing your 2017 tax return in paper format is now only a matter of weeks away.
Whilst HMRC would prefer all taxpayers to file their tax returns electronically, due to a number of issues with their software this may not be possible for all taxpayers. HMRC have identified those taxpayers who may not be able to file their tax return electronically in their guide Self Assessment Individual Exclusions for online filing – 2016/17
Where you are affected by the issues set out in HMRC’s guide then you have the option to revert to paper filing up to 31 January 2018. A 'reasonable excuse' claim should accompany the paper return when relying on this deadline extension.
